Consumer Protection

TREC is the state agency responsible for regulating real estate brokers, sales agents, and inspectors in Texas. TREC enforces the rules and laws that protect consumers in real estate transactions.

Filing a Complaint

If you believe a real estate license holder has violated TREC rules or Texas real estate law, you may file a complaint with TREC. Complaint information and forms are available at trec.texas.gov.

Recovery Trust Account

TREC maintains a recovery trust account that may provide financial relief to consumers who suffer damages in certain real estate transactions. Information about eligibility and limits is available from TREC.
